Experience Pangea Day Live on MSN Across Europe

(5/8/2008) - Source: Microsoft Press Center

LONDON — 8 May 2008 — MSN today announced it will be the exclusive online live streaming partner for Pangea Day, a global event where millions of people all over the world will come together to watch a four-hour programme of short films coupled with talks from CNN's Christiane Amanpour and Queen Noor of Jordan, and music from Bob Geldof and Dave Stewart — at the same time 10 May. The programme will be broadcast through a live MSN webcast, along with television and mobile phone broadcast, and aims to be the world's first "global campfire".

The program will include audience reactions from live broadcast locations in Cairo, Egypt; Kigali, Rwanda; London; Los Angeles; Mumbai, India; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as well as from a couple of the thousands of self-organized watch parties being planned round the world. MSN will stream the four-hour program on 10 May at 6pm GMT across 23 international markets on MSN. Following the event, MSN will continue to air a one-hour highlights version of the show.
The event will be hosted by Lisa Ling, Current TV's Max and Jason, and June Arunga. Pangea Day will also include performances by Gilberto Gil, Rokia Traore, Mohamed Mounir and Iranian rock band Hypernova. The 24 short films to be featured are a result of an international competition, which drew over 2,500 submissions from 105 countries. The films were chosen based on their ability to inspire, transform and allow us to see the world through another person's eyes.
Geoff Sutton, general manager of the MSN Network in Europe, said, "As the exclusive online live streaming partner for Pangea Day, we are able to give our MSN viewers in Europe an exciting, online media experience. Pangea Day is designed to bring people together through the power of film, and we're pleased we can let them experience the event and bring them together through MSN."

About Pangea Day

Inspired by the 2006 TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) Prize wish of documentary filmmaker Jehane Noujaim, Pangea Day endeavours to bring the world together and promote understanding and tolerance through film. Pangea Day is a celebration of what unites us, rather than what divides us. Movies can't change the world. But the people who watch them can. After May 10, Pangea Day organisers will facilitate community-building activities around the world by connecting inspired viewers with organisations doing groundbreaking work.
